Metabolix Ingredients and Doses: What the Label Publishes

The seller publishes an ingredient table for Metabolix. Here it is in full, with plain facts about each ingredient and an honest note on where the evidence runs out.
- Seven ingredients per daily dose of 2 capsules
- Caffeine 100 mg per day, about a mug of instant coffee
- Wheat fibre 600 mg per day, so check the label if you have a wheat allergy or coeliac disease

What the ingredient table tells us
The table is detailed, which is good, but it describes inputs, not outcomes. Amounts of plant extracts do not tell you how much of any active compound you absorb, and we cannot say what the combination does for any person. The caffeine and wheat fibre mean it is not suitable for everyone.
Check the label on the pack you receive, and ask a pharmacist if you take medication.
The published ingredient table
The seller's table, per daily dose of 2 capsules (a 60-capsule bottle is therefore a 30-day supply at the stated directions):
| Ingredient | Per daily dose | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Cayenne pepper extract | 40 mg | Extract of a hot chilli pepper |
| Green tea extract | 150 mg | Extract of tea leaves; naturally contains some caffeine and plant compounds |
| Caffeine | 100 mg | A stimulant also found in coffee, tea and cola |
| Wheat fibre | 600 mg | Fibre from wheat, which contains gluten |
| Chromium picolinate | 40 mcg | A form of the mineral chromium |
| Ginger extract | 60 mg | Extract of ginger root |
| L-carnitine tartrate | 50 mg | A form of L-carnitine, an amino-acid-like compound the body also makes |
The table comes from the seller's own pages, checked 7 November 2026. Always check the label of the pack you actually receive, because formulas can change.

Neutral facts, and the limits of the evidence
Cayenne pepper extract and ginger extract are plant extracts used in food. At these amounts they are small, but cayenne can irritate sensitive stomachs, and ginger carries a general caution for people on blood thinners.
Green tea extract at 150 mg a day is a moderate amount. Green tea extract has been linked to rare liver problems at high intakes, so avoid adding other green tea extract products on top. The table does not say how much of any active compound the extract contains.
L-carnitine tartrate is made naturally in the body and also found in food. People taking thyroid medicine should ask a pharmacist before using supplements containing it.
For most of these ingredients, no authorised UK or EU health claim applies at the amounts listed, so we make none. Studies of plant extracts are often small, use different doses and do not translate into promises for one person taking one capsule product. That is why this page describes what is in the capsule and not what it might do.

Chromium: the one authorised claim
The published 40 mcg of chromium per daily dose is 100% of the UK and EU nutrient reference value (NRV) for chromium. At that level, the following authorised statements may be made about the nutrient: “Chromium contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism” and “Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels”. They are authorised for foods that provide at least 15% of the nutrient reference value.
This is a statement about the nutrient chromium. It does not mean that Metabolix causes weight loss or any other outcome, and we are not saying that it does. It is the only health claim we mention on this site, and it does not extend to the other six ingredients.

Caffeine and wheat: two practical notes
Caffeine. 100 mg per daily dose is about the caffeine in a mug of instant coffee. General guidance is up to 400 mg a day for most adults, and 200 mg a day in pregnancy. Remember that green tea extract can add a little more, and that coffee, tea, cola and energy drinks all count. People who are sensitive to caffeine, or who have heart or blood-pressure issues, anxiety or sleep problems, should ask a GP or pharmacist first and should not take it late in the day.
Wheat fibre. It is on the label, so anyone with a wheat allergy or coeliac disease should check the full ingredient and allergen information before ordering, and ask the seller if anything is unclear.
